Fron trip to NYC televised

CARDIFF, WALES — ALL the drama, emotion and excitement of the Fron Choir’s debut visit to New York will be relived this week in a television documentary – including the moments they were caught up in a hurricane.

Members of the North Wales-based choir have had a memorable few years since signing to Universal, one of the world’s biggest recording labels, in 2005.

But nothing could prepare them for what faced them in the Big Apple at the end of August.

The documentary Côr y Fron: Efrog Newydd 2011 follows the 48-strong group to the USA while also looking back at the choir’s history.

As they prepare for the launch of their fifth album with Universal in October, the choir ventured to New York for the first time ever, hoping to increase their fanbase in the huge US market and further boost album sales.

Progamme producer Bethan Anwyl said: “Their tour to New York was full of incident as they were caught in the middle of the Hurricane Irene onslaught. But there’s far more to the tour than this – the colourful lives of the choir members and the tumultuous response of the people of New York to their performances.”Fron Choir got a warm welcome on the streets of New York
