RENO, NV — The International Choral Festival is gaining more attention but not gaining a crowd. News 4 found out today this event which has cost the RSCVA more than $100,000, may be totally cancelled!
But, will the RSCVA have to pay out more money? We asked the Chair of the Board of Directors Dwight Dortch. He says, "if there is an event I don't anticipate the RSCVA putting out anymore cash.
The RSCVA has spent $117,500 to date on bringing this singing festival to Reno, and we now know it may not even come to fruition. At least that is one option being discussed. Dortch says they're in a tight situation and trying to negotiate some options… Ideas include:
- moving forward and holding a small, downsized event in May, when the event was originally scheduled.
- waiting until 2013, after a larger choral event is held in Cincinnati in hopes that would build up the Reno festival's reputation in the states.
- last, they could cancel the event in its entirety.
EDITORIAL NOTE:
The American Choral Directors Association, a partner in this event, cannot locate this writer's source of information, but to our knowledge, there are no plans to alter the Reno International Choral Festival, and more than 25 choirs are scheduled to participate in this event. The first event of this kind took place in St. Louis, MO, in November of last year, and was a thrilling Festival for all participating choirs. Recent conversations between the American Choral Directors Association and INTERKULTUR led to no information that corraborates parts of this story. Tim Sharp, Executive Director, ACDA
