FL Choral Director Named Teacher of the Year

February 20, 2012 by Richard Allen Roe Leave a Comment

By Joe Callahan

OCALA, FL — Known for her enthusiastic love of music and choral programs, Howard Middle School music teacher and choir director Melissa Bumbach was named Marion County’s 2012 Teacher of the Year on Friday.

“I am so honored. I am so honored to be part of this group,” said Bumbach, a four-year veteran chorus teacher who wrote in her nomination portfolio that she knew since she was in middle school that she wanted to touch lives through music.

Bumbach launched the middle school choral program last year. And then she spearheaded a “Glee Give A Note” campaign sponsored by the National Association for Music Education. The school won $10,000 for its chorus.
