May 6, 2012 by Liane Curtis Leave a Comment

May 7, Monday, at 8 pm, the Rochester Philharmonic's concerts are encored in a streaming radio broadcast — this concert starts with Fanny Hensel's Cantata, "Job" (is this the first US performance??*See Editors Note); followed by Mahler's Symph. No. 2. [encore of concert from Fall 2011]

*Editors Note
We received the following from Michele Edwards:

Liane Curtis asked if the Rochester Philharmonic's performance of Fanny Hensel's Cantata Hiob (Job) might be the US premiere.  It is not.  I conducted  the American premiere with the Macalester Festival Chorale, November 20-21, 1993 in St Paul at St Luke's Catholic Church with professional orchestra.  Almost 20 years ago!

I think this is a wonderful piece and very exciting that it is receiving some added visibility (or audibility).  Hopefully, this exposure will result in some more performances.

Best, Michele
