Eric Riley new leader on a journey to artistry

May 21, 2012 by Richard Allen Roe Leave a Comment

LANCASTER, PA — The Wheatland Chorale, the Lancaster-based choral ensemble that has performed twice a year at Atonement Lutheran Church in Wyomissing for two decades, has announced the appointment of a new artistic director, Eric Riley.

Riley is taking the place of the Wheatland’s founder, Robert J. Upton, who retired as artistic director after the ensemble’s spring concerts at the end of April.

The appointment came at the end of a yearlong search process originally involving 32 candidates who applied, said the Wheatland’s board president, Stephen G. Welz.

Riley has been director of music and organist at the Market Square Presbyterian Church in Harrisburg since 2007, and for the past year has conducted the Central PA Oratorio Singers at Market Square Church. He also conducted the Jubilate! Choral Ensemble of York from 2009 to 2011.
