For Church music directors who might be searching for a grand prelude to an Easter morning service, please have a look at my Resurrection Prelude, a 2-minute work for choir, brass, organ and timpani. The piece subtly interweaves references to two great works dealing with resurrection: Strauss’ Death and Transfiguration and Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony (No. 2). The character of the piece emphasizes glory and grandeur, and the music would be accessible to an average non-auditioned church choir while offering them an experience with present-day tonal writing.
