“It is with great sadness that the Board of Directors of Albany Pro Musica and I announce that our founding director, Dr. David Griggs-Janower, suffered a stroke Friday during surgery,” said Jennifer Amstutz, President of the Albany Pro Musica Board of the Directors. “We ask that our friends and patrons hold David and his family in their thoughts and prayers through this difficult time.”
In consultation with Dr. Griggs-Janower’s family and many of the 65 singers on the current Albany Pro Musica roster, the board has determined that the concerts scheduled for this weekend in Albany and Schenectady will go forward as planned, in Dr. Janower’s honor. Albany Pro Musica’s assistant conductor, Joseph Farrell, will share the podium with Melinda O’Neal, professor of Music at Dartmouth College and conductor of the Handel Choir in Baltimore.
The concert, “If Music Be The Food of Love,” includes a program of music inspired by the theme of love, including a newly commissioned piece setting verses from scriptural passages in “The Song of Songs.” The concerts will be heard Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Church, 21 Hackett Blvd., Albany, and Sunday at 3 p.m. at Key Hall at Proctors, Schenectady.
In light of Dr. Janower’s condition, the board will be re-evaluating the remainder of the 2012-2013 season.
