Award-winning American composer David Avshalomov announces the release of his latest commissioned choral work, “There Was Another Song to Sing”, a short, slow, simple, soulful song of mourning for one who died too young; particularly timely today. Accompaniment; piano, cello (plus optional harp). Extended Alto or Mezzo solo; easy SATB choral passages; cello interlude in the middle. Modern tonal idiom. 4 minutes. It mourns particularly those cut off before their time. Alternative wordings are provided to address the passing of either a male or a female.
This piece was commissioned by the congregation, choir, and organist Connie Grisham of St.George’s Episcopal Church, La Canada, California, as a memorial for Daniel Chaney, tenor, fullhearted singer extraordinaire,who passed in 2017.
