Danville Children’s Choir returns with new conductor

January 17, 2011 by Richard Allen Roe Leave a Comment

By JENNIFER BRUMMETT

The popular Danville Children’s Choir is returning after an
almost-six-year absence, with a new conductor and assistant
conductor/accompanist.

Meg Stohlman is the new conductor, and Daniel Wesley is the new
assistant conductor/accompanist. Auditions for the new choir will
be held this month.

The original Danville Children’s Choir ran for 15 years under
the direction of founder Bruce Richardson. The choir was held to
high standards and performed in New York City, Baltimore, Chicago,
New Orleans, Disney World, and schools and churches in the
area.

When the demands of Richardson’s business, Elmwood Inn Teas,
grew, Richardson disbanded the choir in 2005.

Barbara L. Hall, Stodghill Professor of Music at Centre College,
said the end of the children’s choir was a “real wound to the
Danville arts community and especially to children.”
