The Connecticut Master Chorale, under the direction of Tina Johns Heidrich, will present its annual Holiday Prelude Concert on Sunday, November 20, at 3 pm at the First Congregational Church, 164 Deer Hill Avenue, Danbury.
This popular concert has become a tradition for many and brings jubilant sounds of the season in an eclectic collection of outstanding festive choral music.
Opening the concert with a dramatic fanfare, “Canticle of Joy!” weaves “Joy to the World” and “How Great Our Joy” seamlessly together in an innovative work filled with vibrant energy.
The program features “A Dave Brubeck Christmas”, three pieces from Brubeck’s Cantata “La Fiesta de la Posada”: the vibrant “Gloria”, a serene lullaby “Sleep, Holy Infant, Sleep” and “God’s Love Made Visible” in Dave Brubeck distinctive 5/4 time.
Two nostalgic holiday standards, “You’re all I want for Christmas”, popularized by Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters, and “The Christmas Waltz”, originally written for Frank Sinatra, in expressive new choral versions will create sentimental moments for all.
Also included are works by John Rutter, Dan Forrest, Idina Menzel, and John Williams. There will be songs for Hanukkah and Advent, multi-cultural numbers and many other festive selections that will guarantee a joyous and memorable start to the Holiday Season.
The program will conclude with an exhilarating Gospel celebration of the Christmas story “A King Is Coming to Town”.
