Hello, I’ve just composed a few days ago a new choral work entitled ‘Comme Une Rose’, for a cappella SATB choir (divisi) with French lyrics. Performance Time: 5’05.
Listen to the demo here with English subtitles: https://youtu.be/OqLnLF_yPDE.
Digital sheet music available on the website ASTURIA MUSIC : Comme Une Rose – sheet music.
This song tackles three themes:
The love relationship, through the metaphor of the rose, its perfume and its thorns.
Nature, through the wind that blows and scatters seeds, spreading life all over our Earth.
Love, through a passionate declaration to the better half.
The Rose: this first theme is set out simply, beginning with the words: “Like a rose in the morning exhales its perfume….”.
The wind: this second theme in E Major requires alti and tenors to be resourceful in their breathing, and precise in their rhythmic and intonation skills.
Love: this is the third theme, where the 8-voice choir declaims with passion and a single heart an open letter to the better half.
This piece would fit perfectly for a wedding but not only. I hope you will enjoy my new work. Thanks for listening. Sincerely,
Anthony Sylvestre
Here is the French text, followed by the English literal translation:
Tes épines parfois me font mal et me blessent,
d’amour.”

English literal translation :
‘Like a rose at dawn releasing its scent,
You know how to bring joy to my heart.
The dew on your leaves slowly evaporates,
Under gentle rays of warmth.
Your thorns sometimes hurt and wound me,
but you’re so charming too!
Your unparalleled brilliance and ruddy red
make you the queen of my heart.
Yes, the queen of my heart.
The wind blows wherever it wishes,
whenever it wishes, spreading Life everywhere.
The wind blows, spreading rain in the night,
pouring Life onto our Earth.
The wind blows wherever it wishes,
whenever it wishes, spreading Life everywhere.
The wind blows, spreading rain in the night,
bringing forth Life!
May this wind never take away the love I have for you.
May it never tear you from my arms!
You’ll lose your shine, but my heart will stay
attached to you, my love,
beating strong…
On the whole earth I declare my love for you.
I vow that forever, our destinies,
crossed by chance one fine day,
will remain together, beating strong…
with love.
