MONUMENT, CO — Longtime Lewis-Palmer High School vocal choral instructor George Douthit has been recognized for his accomplishments as a music scholar and mentor by the Colorado Springs Choral Society.
Douthit was recently named the winner of the 2011-2012 Award for Excellence in Choral Education.
“I was very honored. It made my day,” Douthit said. “It’s fun to be recognized by my peers.”
He was previously nominated for the award and was second in line to receive it. Douthit was chosen for the award this year because of his guidance to students in the classroom and in the community and for being a positive influence on youth. He has assisted various music groups with their writing and performing from the genres of opera to jazz.
