Choral Submissions

February 20, 2020 by Adam Stich Leave a Comment

Zintzo means “Honest” in Basque. Zintzo Music is forging an equitable partnership between conductor (consumer), composer, and publisher–rooted in the belief that when the given the chance — people want to do the right thing. Zintzo Music is accepting choral submissions.

All choral music will be licensed on a price per ensemble fee. For example, a work may cost $45-$650 depending on size difficulty, etc (major works vs. octavos.) Also, there will be a sliding scale for different size ensembles (based on number of singers). The license fee gives the right for the ensemble to make as many copies as needed for their performances (ensembles are not allowed to sell their copies). Ensembles can also use the music year after year, but not share the music with other ensembles. This sales method is already employed by many jazz arrangers/publishers. However, it is a relatively novel idea for traditional ensembles.

This solves two issues for the conductor:
1. Having to guess how many copies they will need. Licenses are sold in Sizes (ie: 0-40, 40-60, 60-90, etc.) for different size choirs. So, if a conductor knows she will have 30-35 singers, then she can order the smallest license, and not have to have an exact count.
2. Having to go back and order an extra copy when one gets lost/destroyed. Or when someone leaves the ensemble, but doesn’t return music, or any other number of issues we conductors face. The conductor has a right to keep “on-hand” however many their license is for.

It also solves a big issue for the composer/arranger:
1. Directors who order less than they need (sometimes way less) and then make copies. Giving directors a fair, affordable, easy way to do the right thing will translate to less copyright infringement.

Services Zintzo Music provides:
1. Engraving services to composers with no out of pocket expenses.
2. Professional part tracks and demo recordings at no cost to the composer.
3. National marketing campaigns to increase composer profiles.
4. A group of composers promoting each other’s works.
5. A modern website with: scoreflipper technology built in, convenient payment options, digital pdf and mp3 delivery.
6. Zintzo is one of the few online retailers offering hard copies available as well as pdf downloads. This service is important—many choral directors still prefer hard copies instead of “print on demand” delivery.

The other thing that separates Zintzo is the generous commission, both at the base rate, and with profit sharing.

Right now Zintzo is looking for pieces that will be for Middle/High school and early college (any voicing). Also, church music for SAB/SATB ensembles. Submissions must include pdf’s and demo recordings (midi files are acceptable)
