CHORAL SINGERS INVITED TO PERFORM NEW ORATORIO (Westcheter Co, NY)

October 27, 2015 by Angela Usobiaga Leave a Comment

Taconic Opera invites choral singers to participate in the world premiere performance and professional recording of the oratorio JOB by the company’s General and Artistic Director, Dan Montez.  The work will feature the Taconic Opera chorus, professional lead singers and full orchestra.  Performances will be conducted under the baton of Dan Montez himself who is delighted to debut the fifth of his oratorical compositions in Westchester County.  The work will be sung in English and its musical influences include Fauré, Ravel and Poulenc.

The oratorio is based on the life of the Old Testament prophet, Job, examining the reasons for human suffering through a beautiful new retelling of the famous story. Comments sent by the audience to Taconic Opera after the performance of last year’s Daniel include the following: “Breathtaking!”, “I am in awe!”, “Sweeping harmonic and melodic gestures!”, and “Glorious!”

Tennyson called Job “the greatest poem, whether of ancient or modern literature.” Victor Hugo remarked, “Tomorrow, if all literature was to be destroyed and it was left to me to retain one work only, I should save Job.” Don’t miss being part of this extraordinary world premiere!

All voice parts are welcome, particularly men, and no dues are required.  Membership for experienced choristers will not require an audition, however, all interested singers must read music and purchase their own score ($20). If needed, auditions will be held prior to regular rehearsals during the month of November.  Scores will be available at a reduced price at rehearsal. If interested and/or have additional questions, contact (preferred) or call (914) 649-1826.

The company will be presenting two performances of the oratorio in two locations: Saturday, March 19, 2016, at 7:30pm at the Ossining United Methodist Church; and Sunday, March 20, 2016 at 3:00pm at the White Plains Presbyterian Church.

Rehearsals will begin on Saturday, November 7 at 3:00 pm and will continue on Wednesdays from 7:00-9:00 pm and Saturdays from 3:00-5:00 pm, with time off for the December holidays.  Concerns regarding conflicts with the rehearsal schedule will be happily discussed on a case-by-case basis.  Rehearsal location: Cortland School of Performing Arts, 24 Old Albany Post Road, Cortlandt, NY (Croton on a GPS).
