Choral Music of Meira Warshauer Featured on WPRB Radio’s Classical Discoveries with Marvin Rosen on September 28

 

Ahavah (Love) for mezzo soprano, SATB chorus and orchestra, will be featured on WPRB Radio’s Classical Discoveries with Marvin Rosen on Wednesday, September 28 from 5:30 to 11:00 AM EST. The piece was recorded by mezzo soprano Jennifer Hines, the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, Kirk Trevor, conductor and the Slovak Philharmonic Chorus for Albany Records, (Troy 973) as part of the acclaimed Streams in the Desert disk of Torah-based choral/orchestral works. This program, titled Shepherd of Israel, will present music of Jewish inspiration in observance of the Jewish High Holy Days, and will also include Terezin Ghetto Requiem by Sylvie Bodorova, Call of the Shofar by Matthew H. Fields, Tefila Lemoshe, Op. 63 by Peter Kiesewetter, Concerto Ebraico by Gyorgy Lang, Bershit (Genesis) by Noam Sheriff, plus music by Samuel Gardner, Jeff Hamburg, Sid Robinovitch and others. Ahavah was premiered in 1994 by the Columbia Choral Society and South Carolina Philharmonic, Nicholas Smith, conductor, with Jena Eison, mezzo-soprano. The composer drew on teachings from Rabbis Arthur Waskow and Zalman Schachter-Shalomi in interpreting the text.
