FAIRFIELD, AUSTRAILIA — SINGING with Opera Australia’s Community Choir Project is not just a labour of love for Angelita Gomez – it allows her to connect with her ancestral roots. Mrs Gomez, of Fairfield, is a descendant of acclaimed Italian poet Giuseppe Giacosa, who wrote the librettos used by Giacomo Puccini in La boheme, Madame Butterfly and Tosca.
On Saturday, Mrs Gomez joined 400 western Sydney residents at Fairfield High School during rehearsals for the Community Choir Project’s free concert at the Opera House on Saturday. “The most exciting moment for me was when we sang from Tosca, which my ancestor wrote the lyrics for,” she said. “It was very exciting to see some many people sing together and the sound was incredible.
