Cathedral choir opened up to all

August 6, 2012 by Richard Allen Roe Leave a Comment

HARROGATE DISTRICT, UK — he Dean of Ripon Cathedral’s vowing to ensure choristers maintain their role at the heart of music and worship at the Cathedral.  It follows the closure of the Ripon Cathedral Choir School after more than fifty years.  The Choral foundation will be set up in a new form to continue the 1000-year old tradition with equal opportunities for boys and girls.
The Cathedral proposes to remodel the choir with 24 boy and 24 girl Choristers from any school in Ripon and the surrounding area.  The six existing professional Lay Clerks will continue to provide the Choir’s adult voices, while the Director and Assistant Director of Music will continue to manage and direct the Choir.
