This weekend in Moscow one of the most prestigious and most important theatre festivals Golden Mask was completed, where some hundreds of opera, ballet and theatre houses and foreign production were presented. In the Stanislavsky Theatre, where the Awards Ceremony for more than 30 categories took place, Karmina Šilec received the award for the production When the mountain changed its clothing as “The Best Foreign Production, presented in Russia in 2015”, in the company with an also winning theatre production by Boris Godunov from Lithuanian National Drama Theatre.

This special award from the critics and theatre experts was chosen among dozens of foreign guest productions, the most prominent performers from around the world; from the Odeon Theatre, Nederlands Dans Theatre, The Martha Graham Dance Company, Israeli Opera, Hamburg Ballett to Ladysmith Black Mambazo and The Royal Ballet, Théâtre de la Ville, Sadler’s Wells Theatre, Théâtre Des Bouffes Du Nord, Cloud Gate and others.

In the past years the winners in this category have been Pina Bausch, Robert Lepage, Josef Nadj, Viktor Bodo, Krzysztof Warlikowski, Katie Mitchell and others.

Among the Russian award winners, for which all the most eminent opera, ballet and theatre companies competed, such as the Bolshoi Theatre, Mariinsky Theatre, Maly Drama Theatre, Aleksandrinsky Theatre, Fomenko Theatre, New Opera and others, the Golden Mask received the Bolshoi Theatre for “The Marriage of Figaro” and the ballet “Hero of our time”, Theatre Workshop PN Fomenko for the “Midsummer Night’s Dream”, Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Musical Theatre for the opera “Khovanshchina”, Opera and Ballet Theatre from Yekaterinburg for “Satyagraha”, theatre director Andrey Moguchiy and others. Among this year’s nominees from abroad also Slovene artists Tomi Janežič (director) and Branko Hojnik (scenographer) were nominated.

Music theater production draws its inspiration from the Slovenian folk song Da Pa Ćanynu and is a result of Karmina Šilec’s cooperation with a composer and director Heiner Goebbels in the production by Ruhrtriennale. The production had its premiere in 2012 and since then it has toured to several eminent festivals worldwide (Festival d’Automne a Paris, Ruhrtriennale, Holland festival, Kunstfestival Brussels, Melbourne Festival and others).
