The Canticum Novum Singers and members of The New York Virtuoso Singers, Harold Rosenbaum, Conductor and Artistic Director will join together for the World Premiere of Roberto Sierra’s Missa Latina in its two piano, five percussionist and soloists arrangement by the composer, on Sunday, May 15 – 3:00 PM at The Kaye Playhouse @ Hunter College, 68th St. and Lexington Avenue in Manhattan. This is presented in conjunction with Centro: The Center for Puerto Rican Studies at Hunter College CUNY.

Missa Latina was originally commissioned by the National Symphony Orchestra of Washington DC. and was nominated in 2009 for a Grammy for best contemporary composition. The piece transforms the ancient texts of the Latin Mass into a lively and powerful setting, a moving plea for peace.

Soloists will be soprano Sharla Nafziger and baritone Daniel Teadt. Ms. Nafziger has performed a wide variety of oratorio and concert repertoire, and has appeared with opera companies, symphony orchestras, choral societies and festivals across North America, including appearances with New York City Opera, symphony orchestras across Canada and the U.S. and is also a regular guest at Bach festivals in Virginia (Shenandoah Valley Bach) and Florida (Bach Festival Society of Winter Park). Daniel Teadt has performed major roles throughout the United States and Europe including engagements with New York City Opera, Arizona Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, San Francisco Opera, Anchorage Opera, Aix-en-Provence Festival, Opera Theater of Saint Louis, Ashlawn Opera Festival, Opera Company of Philadelphia, Opera Theater Summerfest and Central City Opera among others.

For more than three decades the works of American composer Roberto Sierra have been part of the repertoire of many of the leading orchestras, ensembles and festivals in the U.S. and Europe. The Canticum Novum Singers, hailed by critics and audiences alike, is now in its 43nd season under the direction of its founder, Harold Rosenbaum.
