Objective
The Brazos Valley Chorale wishes to provide professional development opportunities for talented young composers through premiere performance of new holiday-themed works.
Eligibility
This competition is open to composers who are under the age of 30 at the time of submission.
Guidelines
For 2016, competitive entries must be:
Christmas or winter holiday-themed
For mixed choir (SATB), with limited divisi
Unaccompanied or with keyboard accompaniment
Three to five minutes in length
Original, unpublished, and not previously performed
Text may be sacred or secular but must be in English
If text is not in the public domain, permission from the copyright owner must be included with submission
Suitable for an accomplished volunteer community choir
Prize and Performance
The composer of the winning entry will receive a prize of $1000. The winning entry will be reviewed for possible publication by Carl Fisher. The winner will be announced 15 October 2016. Finalists will be invited to be present at the performance of their work. The Brazos Valley Chorale will reimburse travel expenses up to a maximum of $150.
Rules
The composer retains rights to the composition. However, the Brazos Valley Chorale reserves the right to first recording of the work. In addition, future publication of the work should be designated “Commissioned by the Brazos Valley Chorale.”
The Brazos Valley Chorale reserves the right not to award a prize in any given year.
The judging panel will include the Brazos Valley Chorale’s Artistic Director/Conductor, accompanist, and five representatives from the Board of Directors. Additionally, the Artistic Director/Conductor may choose to add a composer to the panel of judges.
The judging panel’s decision is final.
Submission Instructions
The entry fee is $10. Make checks payable to “Brazos Valley Chorale”
Proof of age (photo copy of driver’s license, passport, or birth certificate) must be provided with submission
One copy of an original score using modern notation software
Scores should be formatted to fit paper no larger than 8.5 by 14 inches
A synthesized recording or other recording of the entry may be included, but is not required
Proof of permission from the copyright owner for any text that is not in the public domain
Submitted materials will not be returned

Deadlines
All submissions must be postmarked no later than 01 October 2016. Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered.

The Brazos Valley Chorale is a 90-120 voice auditioned choir (SATB) of volunteer singers entering its 45th season. The Chorale is the preeminent choral organization in the Bryan/College Station, Texas, region and is known and respected for its difficult and ambitious repertoire of great choral masterworks and contemporary classics.
