BURSCOUGH, UK — A GROUP of churchgoers in Burscough celebrated with cheerful voice on learning they had helped smash a world record for carol singing.
When 300 people gathered at St John the Baptist Church on December 18 last year, they were among almost 200 other churches across the globe hoping to earn the record for the largest group of carol singers in multiple locations.
Once officials from Guinness World Records observed the singers at St John and the 196 other locations, via either video or photographic evidence, it was confirmed that 18,100 singers had taken part in the record attempt. This was enough to break the record set by Disney in 2009, which stood at just over 15,000.
