This Saturday, May 14, Accord Treble Choir sings their new program
“Homelands,” which juxtaposes two distinct choral music traditions. One, the rich choral art music of Hungary, is tethered to a physical place, a language, and a unified national identity. The other, the African-American spiritual choral tradition, is an amalgamation of cultures that bled into one another against a landscape of atrocity and came to share a spiritual directive. With sensitive interpretation and attention to the linguistic and historical context of each arrangement, Accord draws out the complexities of “homeland,” a destination both remembered and imagined, earthly and divine, lost and found.
