COLUMBIA, MO — One of choral music's leading lights will visit Columbia this week,
offering students and listeners an unprecedented opportunity to engage with a figure who has brought centuries-old musical forms into our current context with incredible relevance. Peter Phillips (pictured) is director of The Tallis Scholars, a well-regarded British ensemble that specializes in music of the Renaissance. Phillips will be in residency at the University of Missouri tomorrow through Saturday. A culminating concert featuring MU's University Singers will take place Saturday night.
To gain a little insight into Phillips' remarkable body of work, and his undertaking here at MU, the Tribune exchanged emails with the school's director of choral activities, Paul Crabb.
Tribune: Just to start with the very basics, what has been your exposure to Phillips' work over the years? What was the initial impetus behind bringing him to MU at this particular time?
