In the Fall, our ACDA National R & R Collegiate team issued a survey to better assess the needs of our College & University choirs and student members. The survey results are in! We are grateful for your feedback and excited to share with you some key highlights.
Empowering Early Career Members: We noticed a low response rate from our early career members, signaling an opportunity to deepen engagement. We are committed to better understanding and addressing the unique needs of this vital group, ensuring their voices shape the future of ACDA.
Lack of Representation for 2-Year College Members: There are over 1,200 two-year/community colleges in the US, yet only 19 respondents identified as being affiliated with a two-year institution. The low response rate from this demographic suggests that ACDA may not be viewed as a compelling resource for choral directors primarily engaged in two-year/community college institutions. We are determined to broaden our representation and strengthen our support for our two-year college membership.
Lack of Representation from HBCU College Faculty: The survey did not yield any respondents affiliated with historically Black colleges or universities. This suggests that ACDA may not be viewed as a compelling resource for HBCU faculty and students. We recognize the importance of being an inclusive resource for all, and we are eager to explore how ACDA can better serve our HBCU membership.
Reconsidering Pillars: Many ACDA members identify with multiple pillars, prompting us to consider revising these categories to better reflect the diversity of our membership.
Enhancing Communication Channels: The survey revealed a reliance on weekly emails over our website. In contrast, the organization’s website and online resources appear to be underutilized. To better serve you, we are focusing on improving our communication strategy, directing you seamlessly to online resources and fostering greater interaction through our website.
Content Creation and Collaboration: Inspired by your feedback, the Collegiate Choirs Committee is currently exploring new avenues of valuable and engaging content creation, including short videos delivered through National ACDA’s weekly emails.
Elevating Student Engagement at the National Conferences: The survey results indicated that a significant number of survey takers, particularly students, did not attend the Student Conducting Institute at the 2023 National Conference. ACDA is committed to making our national conference more student-friendly. This involves curating conference content aligned with student interests, facilitating networking opportunities, and exploring innovative pathways for students to navigate the conference easily and successfully.
