The American Choral Directors Association’s (ACDA) Diversity Initiatives National Standing Committee (DIC) is currently seeking applicants for a newly established Divisive Laws and Concepts Task Force. All interested and qualified individuals are invited to submit a curriculum vitae and a letter of application, which should include a vision statement for advancing Access, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging, and Representation (ADEIBR) within ACDA. Materials should be submitted to the DIC, , by February 27, 2026. The work of the Task Force will begin in earnest in mid/late April 2026.
About the Divisive Laws and Concepts Task Force:
This task force is not an advocacy group. Its primary purpose is to monitor, analyze, and consolidate information on divisive concept laws and related legislation emerging across the United States. The task force will also work to develop and share resources that help ACDA members better understand how these laws may impact choral education, programming, and community engagement.
As legislation surrounding divisive concepts continues to evolve, choral educators and leaders are facing increased ambiguity. Many ACDA members are uncertain how to uphold ADEIBR values while complying with shifting legal frameworks. The creation of this centralized task force aims to provide clarity by offering credible, up-to-date, and context-rich information that supports informed decision-making.
About Task Force Membership:
Members of the task force will work collaboratively to compile and monitor legislation
- Compile and monitor legislation related to divisive concepts across states
- Produce regular reports and briefings for the DIC and ACDA National Board
- Contribute to ACDA-wide communications and updates
- Develop and disseminate practical resources, including:
- FAQs
- Legal context summaries
- ADEIBR toolkits tailored to specific choral settings (PK–12, higher education, community, professional, etc.)
Task Force Membership
We welcome ACDA members with a strong foundation in ADEI, law, policy analysis, or related fields. Individuals with prior leadership or diversity work in ACDA chapters or regions are strongly encouraged to apply. However, we also invite those outside traditional ACDA leadership pathways—with significant scholarship, lived experience, or professional expertise in ADEIBR work—to submit materials.
This is a collaborative working group where a range of voices and perspectives are critical to our shared success. Commitment to ACDA’s mission and an interest in navigating the intersection of legislation and choral practice are essential. We encourage applicants working in PK-12 education, community choir settings, houses of worship, post-secondary education, professional choirs, and other relevant settings. We also encourage early—and late-career applicants and those from around the country.
