Free Us, Save Us and Defend Us

This week on Going Beyond Words and ACDA Radio, Host Stan Schmidt continues the serious listening for the Lenten Season.   Taking the texts Libera Nos, How Long O Lord? And De Profundis you will encounter music by John Sheppard, an unaccompanied gem by Johann Michael Haydn, Antonio Vivaldi’s Crucifixus, the stunning cry for help from Egil Hovland plus the Agnus dei by Samuel Barber.    Then there is an a’cappella setting of the Lord’s Prayer for double quartet and double choir by Otto Nicolai that you will want to look into.  The music is grounded by The spiritual The Trumpet Sounds within-a My Soul, for choir and Trumpet by Ian David Coleman and comes to a strong conclusion with De Profundis heard from the Gregorian Chant and a Cantata of the same title by Nicholaus Bruhns.

For a look at the CD’s used and a complete list of the music heard go to the blog of WWW.GOINGBEYONDWORDS.COM website and click on show 2323.
