This week on GBW and ACDA Radio/ChoralNet Host Stan Schmidt un-wraps some new releases revealing the newest of Choral Creations….like Folks Songs, one of Monteverdi three remaining operas, a new look at the GBW Theme and a magnificent setting of the Lords’s Prayer by Leos Janàček. “ Danse, Mon Moin Danse” leads us off a folk song from Canada by Derek Healey performed by The Elora Singers; Then the Baylor Bella Voce presents three selections guided by their director, Lynne Gackle: “La Maumariée (J’entends le looup)” I hear the Wolf; “Hexen” (The Witches’s Song) a lied by Felix Mendelssohn; concluding with the CD title “Will the Circle be Unbroken”. Music of Monteverdi featuring the Prolog of one of his three remaining operas The Return of Ulysses to His Homeland is also heard. If you love Opera, this historic recall from the Renaissance will get to you. It is from a 3CD set with John Eliot Gardnier. A work written by Austin Wintory for and included as the final song of the soundtrack for the video game, Journey “I Was Born for This” sung by Voces 8 and their new CD Enchanted Isle on which they included a mesmerizing arrangement of O Danny Boy the Theme for GBW. The Elora Singers also add a great arrangement of the Billy Joel tune…”and so it goes”. This varied program concludes with a wonderfully, ambitious piece that could be called a compact cantata with five short sections plus the Amen…It’s The Lord’s Prayer by Leos Janàček offered by The Choir of St. John’s Cambridge. Hope you enjoyed the ACDA Convention.
