It has been almost 50 years since the assassination of Dr Martin Luther King. Host Stan Schmidt brings a strong reminder through music and word to ACDA Radio and ChoralNet to help us all recall the greatness of this American minister and what he did to establish the truths he promoted in his, “I Have a Dream” speech, to help establish some unity and bring us all together… Your host will attempt to blend the thoughts of Dr. King with the words of another great man of the cloth, Bishop Desmond Tutu from South Africa with quotes from his book “God Has a Dream”…. Plus a special tribute from American composer David Burger titled “Martin’s Dream”, Written in 2010 and how this significant composition evolved……the piece “Martin’s Dream” comes to us with permission of Dr. King’s Family through April Music Publishing…….You will hear specific spirituals of meaning sung by The Moses Hogan Singers, Conspirare, The Zamir Chorale of Boston led by Matthew Lazar along with some relevant hymns shared by the King’s Singers including the famous “MLK” by Robert Chilcott. Used as a musical theme for this GBW Special is a jazz version of “We Shall Overcome” offered by Charlie Haden and Hank Jones. You will hear “Freedom” by Robert Kyr, a musical “Prayer” by Bishop Tutu composed by James Whitbourn plus other song titles such as “When We Cannot See our way”, “Keep your lamps Trimmed and Burning”, “Grant us Thy Peace” and “Home to Thee”. All of the song titles tell a story……. and then the big shocker, a comment by Jesse Jackson and what he told The Guardian newspaper about the song request Dr. King had ask for to be sung at the next rally…..our broadcast will ends with that song showing how prophetic Dr. King was in his request.
