The Brothers Haydn and Others

This week GBW and ACDA Radio/ChoralNet  travels to Austria and Norway to hear music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart,  Johann Michael Haydn, Franz Joseph Haydn and Norway contributes a selection from  Alfred Janson.    Host Stan Schmidt give this listen a title of The Brothers Haydn and Others.

The main feature is the Missa Sancti Nicolai in G that is directly connected to the court of Count Esterhazy.  It was probably intended for the Feast of St. Nicholas on December 6, which was also the name-day of Prince Nicolalus Esterhazy.  This Missa is offered by the Trinity Cathedral Choir and Rebel Baroque Orchesta from NYC conducted by J. Owen Burdick.  Also reviewed on this broadcast are two Folk Songs from Scotland and Germany arranged FJ Haydn sung by Soprano Daniela Bachly assisted by The Trio Kairos.   The Te Deum in C by Michael Haydn is presented by qualified musicians from Hungry along with two meaningful Motets of M. Haydn done in a gifted and enriching way with Gary Graden and St. Jacob’s Chamber Choir of Stockholm. Two short gems by Mozart, God is Our Refuge and Strength plus Venti Populi from the Advent period are also heard. Those are performed by the Saarbrucken Chamber Choir and Chamber Orchestra from Mannheim with Georg Grün doing the honors.

Finally you will hear Whisper, Wind from a new CD on the BIS lable featuring the music for Choir by Alfred Janson. Well worth looking into.  The disc features the Norwegian Soloists’ Choir with Grete Pedersen in Charge.  A strong interest here are the texts that Janson has used for this project.
