Going Beyond Words and ACDA Radio/ChoralNet will introduce you to four new recordings featuring two university ensembles and two professional choirs. You will enjoy the Yale Schola Cantorum under David Hill, the Utah State University Chamber Singers guided by Dr. Cory Evans, the Concordia University Chicago Kapelle with Dr. Charles P. Brown, and finally, the ensemble called Cappella SF (San Francisco) with their conductor Ragnar Bohlin. CD 1 features the music of Palestrina and Magnificat primi toni 8VA. Then Dr. Evans leads his group with music from a new disc called “Homeward Bound” with a special look at a wonderful eclectic program from hymns and spirituals, some fiddle and guitar accompaniments, and a great song by Vince Gill. The Concordia University Chicago Kapelle live in concert “God Is Love” recording gives you two very familiar works by Kenneth Jennings and Paul Maelor. To close, we hear Cappella SF made up of some of the best singers from the San Francisco Bay area. Their recording goes by the title “Timeless – Ten Centuries of Music.” Their director, from Sweden, is Ragnar Bohlin, who formed the group in 2013. They are on the Delos label. They share music by Isaac, Praetorius, and Bach; Joseph Rheinberger, Frank Ticheli; a great Shaker song called “Lay Me Low,” and the Eric Whitacre hit “Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine.” All of these conductors (your friends) have trained their singers for the best sounds available. Put these recordings in your library.
