The Music of Anton Bruckner and George Frideric Handel

Going Beyond Words and ACDA Radio/ChoralNet will air four important works by Anton Bruckner and a piece written by  George Frideric Handel during 1706-07 which was the first large scale sacred work written when he was still very young.  He was in his formative artistic impressions in Hamburg, one of the centres of this extremely rich and fertile music culture. He composed Dixit  Dominus, unusually extended and ambitious in both technical and artistic terms.   It was probable heard for the first time on July 16, and 17, 1707 at the Roman Church of Santa Maria in Monte Santo on the Piazza del Popolo within the framework of Vespers for the annual feast of the Carmelite Order.  Performing this work is Vox Luminis which has only 10 singers.  They are assisted by just 14 Instrumentalists.  They are led by conductor, Lionel Meunier.  We will listen to three well known motets by Bruckner Locus este, written for Mixed 4 part chorus in 1869; Virga Jesse composed in 1885; and his famous Ave Maria scored in 1881 for 7 part mixed chorus.   Finally you will hear setting of Psalm 114 that Bruckner wrote for 5 part Chorus and Trombones.   Your chance to hear some real gems.
