This week Going Beyond Words Host Stan Schmidt brings back to ACDA Radio and ChoralNet show he did on April 7, 2013….sort of a Valentine recall and offers choir directors an hour of music by Composers responsible for pages in the American Song Book. It’s best that you make a cup of Hot Coco put in a couple of marshmallows and just sit there and listen. There is music in by Jerome Kern, Arthur Schwartz, Cole Porter, Rogers and Hart, Ray Noble, Jack Lawrence, Jimmy Van Heusen and Paul Williams and Roger Nichols…..The singers are in a class by themselves like…..The Voices of Ascension, The Hi-Lo’s with Marty Paich, The Norman Luboff Choir, Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett, The Robert Shaw Chorale, Nancy Wilson, Nat King Cole, Manhattan Transfer, Frank Sionatra, and Karrin Allyson. The program comes to a very emotional conclusion as Jack Jones offers a salute to Buddy Rich with Here’s That Rainy Day and segues into I won’t Last a Day Without You offered by Mel Tormé and Buddy Rich. This page from the American Song Book will be worth saving to play for your students who want to study the best example of this genre of music. This is a special visit and one you will remember.
