Going Beyond Words host, Stan Schmidt, goes back into his archives to bring listeners of ACDA Radio and ChoralNet an hour of stunning musical sounds by Coro Cervantes, a choir from England that specializes in music of the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America. You will hear choral music of the highest quality created by composers and poets indigenous to the country of Spain. The ensemble Coro Cervantes makes its home in England. Their director, Carlos Aransay, founded the group in 1955 under the auspices of the Instituto Cervantes in London. Its repertoire spans a wide variety of music from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance to the twenty-first century with special emphasis on Romantic music. The soloists you will hear have voices that will touch your soul.
In the second half of the program is a special work by Anton Garcia Abril. Concito del la Pieta (1989) was a commission of the Cuenca Festival of Sacred Music in Spain. It was premiered by soprano Maria Oran, whose voice is presented on this broadcast. The text was written by Antonio Gala for the composer Abril. This is a very serious piece that speaks of the sacrifice that Christ made on the cross. In all, there are eight choral works of art and a program you will want to file for future listening.
Finally I have had several conductors who listen and say they have a special computer in their departments where choral students can come and select a broadcast to listen to. Sounds like a good educational tool. So far, ACDA Radio has aired almost 75 programs of Going Beyond Words. Keep up the good work, ladies and gentlemen.
