This week on ACDA Radio and ChoralNet, Host Stan Schmidt invites you to celebrate a composer who ranks right up with Johann Sebastian Bach. He was born in 1567, his Name Claudio Monteverdi….The question is?….how can you do justice in just 59 minutes?…..well you can’t …..but your ear will gather in music from two Operas La Temporanza “O Mortals: of your fleeting pleasures” and Si Ch’0 Vorrei Morire-Yes, I would like to die, now that I kiss, O Love, the fair mouth of my beloved Sweetheart”; Also a taste from the second book of Madrigals Tutte le boche belle (All Beautiful)….Then of course most of the Original Magnificat from the Vespers of 1610. Checking our sources we will soundly recall four great compositions that are part of the 1641 collection Selva morale e s spirituale…..”Laudate Dominum” Secondo 8 voices; Gloria from the “Messa a 4 da cappella”; That special “Dixit Dominus” Secondo for 8 voices and the wonderful “Confitebor Tibi Domine” with three voices with five Voci Altre ne’ ripieni. Some of the performing groups are the Cantus Cölln, Concerto Palatino; The Taverner Consort choir and players from a 1984 CD with Andrew Parrott; Cappella Mediterranea with two Opera selections and La Venexiana doing a madrigal from Book two. Fantastic enduring music from a giant of Music History
