Childcare during rehearsals

Good day, my choir is looking for info from other choirs on whether they provide childcare during rehearsals and how they mitigate liability. We have several members who can attend only if someone provides childcare. We have non-singer volunteers who would be willing to watch the children, but are looking for advice on how to manage risk associated with injury, foodborne illness, etc. We require our singers to sign a waiver that indemnifies our organization from liability, but doesn't cover third parties - like our host org or the volunteers. We typically rehearse in churches and schools. Thanks!

Seems like this just came up a few weeks ago, but hey! this is a forum of choir directors. We know a lot about music. If you want to get reliable information about legal liability, you should talk to an attorney. If you want to know about indemnity, you should talk to an insurance agent. Laws vary from place to place, so the experience of other directors isn't going to be reliably helpful. If you want expert advice, you should talk to an expert, not a choir director.

I want to emphasize, though, that no one should make decisions based on fear of worst-case scenarios. The children involved are at much greater risk of harm in the car traveling to rehearsal than they are from the babysitter. Please don't let unrealistic fear stop you from making it convenient for singers, especially young parents, to sing with your choir.
