Tour Manager Conference Sept 15-17, 2012. (Minneapolis, MN)

February 24, 2012 by Leave a Comment

The College Music Tour Manager’s Association (cmtma.org), an organization of 30 colleges and universities across the U.S. with music ensemble touring programs, has been a valued resource for college music tour planners for over 25 years.

CMTMA brings together directors and administrators to share and learn from past touring experiences of colleagues in the industry, provides an opportunity to collaborate with peers, and a chance to gain new perspectives through experts in music touring. In addition, sessions, workshops and guest speakers allow for in-depth discussion of a variety of topics related to college/university music organizations, ensemble touring and the ever-changing world of music performance.  Past sessions have included:
  • Tour audience development
  • International touring
  • Ticketing tours
  • Producing recordings
  • Incorporating technology in tour planning and promotion
  • And any topics attendees choose to introduce!
CMTMA is a not for profit organization with membership and conference fees subsidized by revenue from website advertisers.  With your membership, the website becomes a resource for vendors and venues around the country and allows you to post on message boards and to respond to other members.  Submit your own venues and add comments for other members to browse!

Here are a few quotes from current members:

CMTMA has been a great network for sharing “tricks of the trade” and for learning from both large and small programs. It is gratifying to hear the positive comments from attendees.
B.J. Johnson
Manager of Music Organizations
St. Olaf College (MN)

I attended my first CMTMA conference after only being at my job for two months. What a treasure to know that I have colleagues all over the country with whom I can brainstorm and ask questions.
Eric Ellingsen
Luther College (IA)

This is the most pertinent professional development available for college music tour managers.
Gordon Moe
Manager of Choral Organizations
Concordia College (MN)

I recommend my colleagues join because it brings together a like-minded group of caring individuals who are willing to share ideas for the benefit of the collective whole.
Kent Loken
Manager of Instrumental Organizations
Concordia College, (MN)

Where else can you dialogue with others who do EXACTLY what you do!  The ability to bounce ideas off others and discuss tour processes is invaluable.
Julie Johnson
Director, Academy of Music/Ensemble Tours
Northwestern College (MN)

My predecessor said it would be a wonderful support to a new person in the role of College Music Tour Manager, and it certainly has been!
Shirley Garrison
Manager of Performance and Outreach
Pacific Lutheran University (WA)

The conference is a networking and knowledge goldmine, and throughout the year we rely on each other for ideas and support.
Terra Widdifield
Assistant Manager of Music Organizations
St. Olaf College (MN)

I rely on the support and expertise from members who deal with the same issues and concerns I have.  They help me do my job better!
Joan Lack
Program Assistant & Tour Coordinator
Whitworth University (WA)

The best thing I took away from the conference was the energy and knowledge base to innovate performance outreach and promotion for our music programs.
Clyde Andrew Walter
Events and Outreach Manager, Office of Communication and Marketing
Augustana College (IL)

Every year I get great ideas for how to do things faster and easier. I come back full of ideas and revitalized with creative ideas.
Debbie Abel
Office Manager, Department of Music
Central College (IA)
