The Midwest Motet Society will sing two concerts this spring with the same repertoire; “A Woman’s Place: Music By and About Women.” Their first concert will be Sunday, May 20, 2018 at 4 pm at St. Paul Episcopal Church, 1101 Park Drive, Munster, Indiana and the second will be Sunday, June 3, 2018 at 4 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2901 Western Avenue, Park Forest, Illinois. A Free Will donation is the price of admission.
Beginning with a rarely done Renaissance composer, Vittoria Aleotti, the MMS will also sing music by two better known women composers of the 19th century, Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel (Felix Mendelssohn’s big sister) and Clara Schumann (Robert’s wife). And will sing one of their favorite Spiritual settings by Evelyn LaRue Pittman as well as works by two well-known 20th and 21st century women composers, both very much alive and in their 90s, Alice Parker and Emma Lou Diemer. Two pieces by men, one a tribute to a favorite cousin and the other a beautiful setting of the Twenty-third Psalm dedicated to the composer’s mother, are included to round out the program. So where is a Woman’s Place? In the CONCERT HALL of course!
