• Sunday duties: 10.30am High Mass with 10:00am rehearsal.

• Other opportunities for additional income: cantoring for funerals, weddings, and other weekend masses.
Compensation: negotiable/based on experience (some services pay more than others)

Preferable: MM in Vocal Performance

Staff Bass/Baritone for Cathedral Choir wanted
The Cathedral of St. Patrick, located in the Dilworth neighborhood of Charlotte, is currently seeking a bass/baritone section leader. Under normal procedures, Cathedral Choir sings on Sundays at the 11:00 a.m. Mass. There are additional liturgies at Christmas, during the Easter Triduum (Holy Week), and other times as announced. Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings from 7:30pm-9:15pm from September until mid-June. Sunday morning call time is 10am. Extra rehearsals may be called occasionally. The stipend would be $45 per call. Requirements would include good sight singing skills, excellent intonation, an ability to sing in Latin and English, good leadership and pastoral sensitivity skills, and willingness to informally coach/advise volunteer section members. Singers with an interest in Gregorian chant and polyphony are especially encouraged to apply.
Currently the Cathedral Choir is following special protocols due to the ongoing health crisis. After a two month hiatus in the spring of 2020, the choir resumed singing with cautionary steps in place: singing in small groups of no more than 6, spaced 10-ft apart and with face coverings. The choral groups are currently singing alternately for the 5:30pm Saturday evening Mass and 9am Sunday Mass at St. Patrick’s. We are hoping to resume a normal schedule as soon as possible.

Artistic Director Deborah Simpkin King is well known for her new music advocacy and extensive collaboration with living composers.
Ember is now celebrating its 25th anniversary season with the theme of “Listening” — listening to each other with civility; listening to our own internal voices, and those often considered to be “on the fringe;” listening to the earth and to the universe; considering what lessons we can learn as we heighten our awareness and ability to listen on multiple levels. Remaining concerts of the season will be on May 16/17. To learn more about us, please visit our website, EmberEnsemble.org.
