Hello,
My church will be celebrating an “Open and Affirming” Sunday and I would appreciate receiving any suggestions of choral repertoire (not necessarily sacred) in this vein, or sources I could use to research some appropriate selections.
Many thanks,
Guillermo Muñoz Küster

I am just reminded of a piece that I bought a year or so ago but have not yet had the opportunity to perform. “At This Table” with words and music by Jonas Myrin and Idina Menzel is published in various voicings by Hal Leonard. I am so enamored with the lyrics of this piece and the wide welcome that is conveyed. I’m hopeful that my ensemble will be able to sing it for World Communion.

A few immediately come to mind: Mark Miller’s “Welcome” and “Draw the Circle Wide” (published by Abingdon, I believe). “Freedom Come” by Ben Allaway, “Many Gifts, One Spirit” by Allen Pote.
I remember an unexpected experience of the message of grace-filled welcome when we sang Jack Schrader’s gospel-style setting of the old hymn “No, Not One.” It was the Sunday after the Pulse shooting in Orlando and our minister began the service by reading the names of each victim. When the choir sang these words, I heard them in a new moving way: “Will He refuse us a home in heaven? No, not one!”

Hi Guillermo,
You may wish to consider FOR EVERY LOVE A PLACE, a TTBB setting of a gay poem by James Fenimore Cooper, Jr. You will find a recording, score video and downloadable perusal score here:
