http://www.californiaanthem.orgBackground
The “California Anthem” has been sung by many choirs since it was written almost 20 years ago, to celebrate the beauty of the state and its people…..
The anthem was first recorded by the 120-member Pacific Empire Chorus, directed by Jan Gervais, in Santa Rosa, Ca. A promo video was seen by over 35,000 viewers, and comments began pouring in regarding how the song touched people’s hearts, igniting feelings of love and longing from people of all ages around the world, and inspiring a movement toward getting the “California Anthem” adopted as a new State Song for California.
The song was performed at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mt. View by a chorus of 650 singers, and was filmed for inclusion in Dean Mermel’s “12 Pianos” project, where a chorus of 60 singers sang the “California Anthem” under the direction of Karyn Silva, Artistic Director of Peninsula Girl’s Chorus in Burlingame, CA, accompanied by Dawn Reyen, Assistant Conductor of Schola Cantorum of Mt. View.
Now just Imagine…..
Just in the last year, California has been ravaged by fires, border tragedies, and ongoing drought. With a goal of bringing a performance to the public that will be spiritually uplifting, a collaborative effort between choruses in Northern and Southern California is envisioned. (The venue could be a fundraiser for people displaced by the crises, similar to the “Live Aid” concert.)
Grammy Award-winning operatic soprano, Hila Plitmann, has graciously agreed to sing lead vocal in a large choral performance of the “California Anthem!” We are seeking Southern California choral groups interested in participating in this special event, and considering showcasing this incredible event via live Webcast.
