Musica Sacra is a new collaborative performing arts project that seeks to increase the range of cultural experiences for both audiences and performers by exploring the role of the sacred in the rich diversity of human experience, through word, image, and music.
Auditions for the inaugural choral program of this project are being conducted through the month of March, seeking 24 experienced singers for a varied program on the timely theme of leadership and responsibility, including music of Avshalomov, Brahms, Hampton, Pinkham, Schütz, and Thompson, along with texts from the Koran, Scripture, the Talmud, and by William Blake, e e cummings, John Donne, Pico della Mirandola, and Chief Joseph Strongwolf.
The concentrated schedule of six rehearsals begins after Memorial Day, leading to two performances on Sunday, June 14 (Flag Day), preceded by a mid-April session to distribute and read through the repertoire, for a total time commitment of approximately twenty hours. Compensation will be $300 per singer.
Auditions, rehearsals, and performances will be at The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Further information, and a downloadable Audition Request Form are available at MusicaSacraMilwaukee.org.
