Jazz Requiem of Nils Lindberg

April 26, 2017 by ACDA Leave a Comment

This week on Going Beyond Words and ACDA Radio, Host Stan Schmidt Presents a SPECIAL EDITION featuring a Jazz Requiem by Swedish Composer Nils Lindberg.   When listening to the Compositions and arrangements of Nils Lindberg, it soon becomes evident that his musical roots are from his native Dalarna, the traditional home of Swedish Folk Music.  The Music he creates, whether it is written for Choir, Jazzband or full symphony orchestra has also been well received beyond the Swedish borders.

Stan Schmidt had the opportunity to conduct this Jazz Requiem with the Composer at the piano.  He takes the time tell you how this came about and strongly encourages choral directors to step out of the box and experience a very exciting opportunity for growth by combining a Big Band with your choral ensemble that usually sings the classical genre for a very different musical encounter.   A Big Band Requiem with up to 8 Choral parts in a Jazz Idiom.   Re-live the same text that Mozart and Verdi used through Jazz.
