Gloriæ Dei Cantores presents Handel’s Messiah, Parts II and III with organ and orchestra

The work will be performed over three days—the first half of Part II on Good Friday, April 15, the second half of Part II on Holy Saturday, April 16, and Part III on Easter Sunday, April 17.

Dear Colleagues, Directors and Friends:
I have had a wonderful short composing career since I left full-time high school choral directing. I have had some great publishers to take a chance with my music and many choirs to sing my pieces. But, I still have a folder on my desktop that reads “music to work and publish”, or the folder could read “do something with this music”. I have reached the age in life that now is the time to do something. So, I apologize that I will now “do something with this music” over the next year(s) good, bad, or indifferent. Thanks to a wonderful friend who is teaching me how to put scores on youtube with music.
I begin with “We Will Remember Them” that I wrote in 2014 for the death of our son and his good friend the next year. Today I dedicate it to those in Ukraine who have lost their lives.
On May 14, 2020 my dog named Ruperto passed away and that same day I wrote a poem for him in an Instagram post. I felt that he had already realized all of his dreams and achieved all of his goals (be happy). He really had a great life and made everyone around him happy. We exchange love and live great adventures together. He always traveled with me everywhere and was able to see mountains and seas.
Something in that poem caught the attention of Anthony Silvestri who suggested that I make it a choral work. “You must use that poem” he said to me. I felt that it was not important, that it was very intimate material and that in the end no one was going to identify with my relationship with my dog. Why would someone do it? as a good friend that he is, a few weeks later, Anthony approached me with a version of the poem. As we all know, this version is far superior to my original poem. Anthony is simply a living legend who performs miracles with words. I wrote a minute of music and then I began to solve commissions for pieces. That’s why I had to put aside the idea of finishing writing this piece. The work was frozen and today I feel like I want to pay homage to that memory. To unconditional love, to live with joy and do everything possible so that when the last day comes, only good memories remain.
I would like you to consider being part of this consortium. In this way, you will be able to acquire a work written with the heart in hand. You will be able to listen to the sounds of the soul turned into music and you will also have a great story to tell. Conducting Internship
The Zamir Chorale of Boston www.zamir.org
The Conducting Internship was established in 2000 to train conductors in the area of Jewish choral music. We are now accepting applications from qualified candidates for the 2022-23 season.
The intern is engaged in a study of Jewish choral repertoire and conducting techniques with the Chorale’s Artistic Director, sings as a regular member of the Chorale, attending all rehearsals and concerts, attends monthly staff meetings, may be given opportunities to conduct the Chorale in rehearsals (both tutti and break-out rehearsals) and in concert, and
may sit in on auditions for new members.
The intern may also serve as assistant conductor, vocal coach, and/or section leader. The term is generally for one season (September through June).
This is an unpaid position.
QUALIFICATIONS
Excellent musicianship skills and some experience in choral conducting
A pleasant voice, appropriate for choral singing
Advanced musical literacy
Interpersonal and leadership skills
An interest in Jewish choral music

ACDA-PA members are encouraged to invite their high school, college, church, and community singers to join in song this summer at the Summer Conference! Guest conductor-composers Elaine Hagenberg and Dr. Marques Garrett will lead the “Choir for All,” an honor choir associated with the ACDA-PA summer conference.
The rehearsals and performance will take place at Messiah University on Sunday, July 31 and Monday, August 1, 2022 which will culminate in an informal performance at the conference. This is an opportunity to learn music from some amazing conductor-composers as well as sing with a wide variety of people. ACDA members should assemble a quartet of singers (SATB or multiple quartets of singers) from their high school, college, church, or community choir to participate. COVID mitigation efforts will align with the CDC at the time of the event.
