Conducted by its founder, Dr. Deborah Simpkin King, the choir performs its full concert season in both New Jersey and Manhattan with virtual performances available internationally. Its members have been drawn together by a shared love of great choral music and by dedication to the highest standard of performance. The group is admired by both its audiences and the critics. The Classical New Jersey Society Journal raved: “The most warmly rounded . . . blend I have ever heard in a live choral concert.
Ember singers include a high percentage of active professional musicians, young emerging professionals, and experienced avocational musicians. Solo technique is supported Ember’s approach to tone. Singers come from an exceptionally wide geographical radius from both sides of the Hudson River. All of our rehearsal and performance venues are highly accessible via mass transit.
What is expected in the audition?
Requisites for auditioning include previous choral experience, music-reading ability, and a clear voice with good intonation. Auditions consist of a prepared solo, sight singing, and an interview with the Artistic Director.
Is there a financial commitment?
There are no membership fees or dues. However, singers are expected to purchase their own music.
How do I audition for solo work?
All solos are assigned to ensemble members. Indicate your desire for solo work in your preliminary audition conversation. You may be asked to prepare specific music for solo auditions.

MIDDLETOWN, CONN. (July 20, 2021) — The GMChorale is proud to present Creation’s Bounty for their 2021-2022 season and is seeking new singers of all ages and voice types to join us!
Would you like to sing in a choral group that performs interesting and often under-produced, established choral masterworks and new music?
Would you like to join a singer-focused choral group helping their members become better musicians through performance and education?
Would you like to be part of a community-based performing arts organization, with multiple choral, instrumental and educational offerings, that aims to enrich the individual and the community?
GMChorale is comprised of a diverse group of individuals of all ages and walks of life who are united in their love of music and a desire to create community. We perform two mainstage concerts each season, as well as sing for the annual Festival of Carols at First Congregational Church of Cheshire.
With a wide-ranging classical repertoire, we perform many of the great choral masterworks with orchestra, music of various styles, periods, and genres, and contemporary music recently commissioned and composed.
Rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-9:30 pm at Bethany Lutheran Church, 50 Court Street, Cromwell, CT, and incorporate physical and vocal warmups, full group rehearsal periods, and smaller voice sectionals to create a fulfilling rehearsal experience. Member accompanists and vocal coaches in each of the breakout sessions assist singers in learning their music.

Commonwealth Chorale is looking forward to returning to live rehearsals and performances this fall! Planned repertoire for the 2021-22 season includes pieces by Thompson, Walker, and Paulus, The World Beloved Bluegrass Mass by Barnett and Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass. We are an 85-person member-run volunteer chorus looking for experienced choral singers in all parts.
