Downtown Chorus is looking for many new voices to join a friendly — and varied — core group of singers. Singers of all experience levels and of all vocal ranges are welcome. The ability to read music is a plus but not a requirement as is prior chorale experience. Interested persons should contact Dr. Yau at (212) 220-8000 ext. 7240 or e-mail for an appointment; or visit www.downtownchorus.org

Tuesday, January 19, 2016
Auditions are held by appointment, and adults with classical choral experience and basic sight-reading skills are encouraged to audition. Singers must sing a 2-3 minute a cappella solo and be prepared for a brief (and friendly) musicianship assessment. Previous experience singing in a choir is preferred. Prospective members do not have to know how to read music in order to join.
Weekly rehearsals during the academic year are Wednesdays from 5:45 to 7 p.m (beginning January 20th).
Audition requirements: Candidate singers will be asked to sing a familiar song such as Happy Birthday or America (My Country ‘Tis of Thee). The audition will also include singing back pitch and rhythm patterns and a range check. The audition will take approximately 5 to 10 minutes. Rehearsals will begin on January 20th.
