AUDITIONS - Volunteers

Auditions for Commonwealth Chorale

December 10, 2019 by Rosalind Walter Leave a Comment

Commonwealth Chorale is in the midst of a very exciting 2019-2020 season celebrating 40 years under the direction of David Carrier. Our winter and spring concerts feature pieces by Bruckner, Bernstein, Chilcott, Thompson, Walker, Paulus and Forrest. We are an 85-person, member-run volunteer chorus looking for experienced choral singers in all parts.
Auditions will be held on January 7, 2020. More information about singing with Commonwealth Chorale can be found at the “Sing with Us” section of our website http://www.commonwealthchorale.com/.
If you would like to schedule an audition or need more information, call 617-364-3697 or email . We are looking for new members who have voices that blend, good vocal technique, musicianship (including sight-reading ability), devotion to the art of ensemble singing and the desire to be part of a community of talented and adventurous amateur musicians. We rehearse on Tuesday nights from 7:30 to 10:00 pm at the Eliot Church, 474 Centre Street, Newton.

NYC: Ember auditions on December 18th

December 7, 2019 by susanbaerscholaonhudson-org Leave a Comment

Auditions on December 18th!

Ember is an 8-part SATB ensemble for experienced singers who can read music. The ensemble stands out for its programming, which focuses on telling a meaningful story over the course of a full concert season. Artistic Director Deborah Simpkin King is well known for her new music advocacy and extensive collaboration with living composers. Ember holds auditions at the beginning of each concert cycle. Interested singers should reach out to us online at EmberEnsemble.org/auditions or via e-mail at . While the performance standard for membership is high, what knits Ember together is the experience of music as a living, breathing thing, connected to our daily lives, and filled with meaning. The Ember family always welcomes new members who share this passion for storytelling through song.

Ember has moved its Tuesday-evening rehearsal location to the Opera America building, 330 7th Avenue (2-1/2 blocks south of Penn Station). Ember is unusual in its wide radius from which its singers hail — and equally from NY and NJ. The new location was selected for its accessibility to singers from both states.

Auditions are held at Opera America and consist of vocalizing, singing a prepared aria, art song or show tune, and sight reading. Ember singers read music, and work with heightened ensemble discipline and flexibility to maximize expressive potential. Clear tone and excellent intonation are necessary for a successful audition. Ember is a mix of professional and experienced avocational singers, and we welcome auditions from both. We look forward to meeting you!
