Our musical director travels 90 minutes each way for rehearsals. I’m investigating technology to reduce the travelling. We’re an adult community choir with mixed ability. We have rehearsal tracks.
Here is one idea I’d appreciate comments on. And if you have other ideas that would be great.
My observation is that sectionals consist of two elements: – 1. playing the part , adding relevant commentary. 2. Choristers singing, making mistakes and getting correction.
My thought is that the MD could do a youtube livestream for each section(of type 1 ie playing the part and adding commentary) to replace a coming together rehearsal. (An experienced MD could predict 90% of the mistakes that would be made and talk about them)
Choristers would be required to watch the livestream, giving written questions where they need to.
After that the weaker choristers (and those who would have missed a get together rehearsal) could work with the video over and over.
