Our school is moving to a modified block next year with an anchor day on Mondays (all 7 classes meet), then Tues. and Thurs. we see 1,2,3,7 and Wed. Frid. we see Periods 4,5, and 6 with a 55 minute “Acadamy” period.
We’ve been given some boilerplate templates, but I thought I would access the Choral HiveMind and see if anyone had things that have worked for them and are effective. I have concerns about my beginning and intermediate singers because even with differentiation, I don’t think they will have the stamina or retention that the advanced singers will. Anything you can share would be helpful as I spend the summer picking repertoire and wrapping my head around this new opportunity.
Thanks in advance,

Bruce Lengacher wants some advice on converting to block scheduling.
Been there. You might collect unison, canon, and art songs that can be arranged in order of difficulty. Introduce them half-way through the rehearsal and treat each as sight-reading exercises that may be converted into concert pieces. If the kids fall in love with any of them (and they will), you have the option of sharing them with an audience. Over all, expect your kids to get a little “dumber” in the performance arts. This is normal and something they would be dealing with when they left high school anyway. Lower your pacing just a little bit and raise your loving patience a lot.
Hope that helps!
