Hi! I’m an upcoming senior string pedagogy major with a strong interest in conducting. My question is for experienced conductors coming from a string background.
I’m thinking of getting a masters in the near future and am at a quandary on what I ought to pursue. I would really like to conduct orchestras and choirs, especially a combination of the two, but am wondering what track would best help to prepare me – string pedagogy/performance or general conducting. Should I work to master my violin craft and simply take extra conducting classes, or should I focus on mastering the art of orchestral and choral conducting?
