I’m thinking about incorporating some secular songs as possible closing hymns for my church service. By the final hymn I sense that people have tuned out, and trying something different might be a timely alternative. I’ve had my choir sing “secular” anthems now and then (Bridge Over Troubled Water. The Road Less Traveled) and I like the idea of not being limited to the “sacred anthem repertoire” (much of which I find contrived) but employing a “secular” song/piece in order to give its music/lyrics new perspective. Anyway, does anyone have suggestions for a good closing congregational “song”? (I’ve thought of “Day By Day” from Godspell, for example, but even that has become a cliche).
